SPI CELEBRATES INDIGENOUS PEOPLES MONTH

18 October 2022 – Sulong Peace launched its exhibit “Women’s Rights Through Challenging Times” as part of our celebration of Indigenous Peoples Month this October! By virtue of Proclamation No. 1906 s.2009 signed on October 29, 1997, October is celebrated as Indigenous Peoples Month every year, for 25 years now!

Chairperson Richard Palpal-latoc of the Commission on Human Rights gave the welcome remarks.

Inspirational Messages were given by Ms. Carmela Barcia, Deputy Head of Mission of the Spanish Embassy, and Chairperson Allen Capuyan of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP).

Also present were Atty. Jacqueline De Guia, Executive Director of CHR; Director Reynaldo Dingal, Office of Empowerment and Human Rights of NCIP; Director Dahlia Dait-Cawed, Office of Foreign Assisted Programs and International Relations Office of NCIP; and Ms. Maria Cotado, Collaborator for Cooperation of AECID.

Our Executive Director, Ms. Joever Reyes Escober gave the Closing Remarks, and the esteemed guests were given time to view the exhibit and ask questions.
