SULONG PEACE – PNP HRAO PARTNERSHIP- Custodial Officers Orientation Seminar
Sulong Peace, in partnership with the Philippine National Police – Human Rights Affairs Office (PNP-HRAO) conducted a Custodial Officers Orientation Seminar. 35 Custodial Officers from Police Regional Offices 1, 2, 3, Cordillera, and NCR, participated in the face-to-face training in Baguio City, while 450 Custodial officers joined virtually and participated in the discussions.
The discussions on the first day included: Management and Supervision of PNP Custodial Facilities and Persons Under PNP Custody (PUPCs), RA 7438 (Rights of Persons Arrested, Detained, or Under Custodial Investigation), and RA 9745 (Anti-Torture Law). On the second day, the discussions included: UN Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners, Guidelines in the Payment of Subsistence Allowance for PUPCs, and Security Survey and Inspection. The speakers were Atty. Jaime Arroyo, PLT COL Edgar Pablico, PLT Col. Kurt Toyokan, and PMaj Levonn A. Madalang.
HRAO Chief, PBGEN Vincent Calanoga presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Sulong Peace, in recognition of our partnership and collaboration in this training. It has been one year since Sulong Peace and PNP signed a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize our engagements in conducting joint activities and efforts in promoting Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law.
The aim of the partnership with the PNP is to complement Sulong Peace’s vision for a “peaceful Philippine society that is based on justice and genuine development,” as well as the PNP vision of “being a highly capable, effective, and credible police service working in partnership with a responsive community towards the attainment of a safer place to live, work, and do business by 2030.”
