HISTORY
In 2006, Sulong CARHRIHL was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a non-profit organization that primarily aims to advocate for the full implementation of the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (CARHRIHL).
CARHRIHL is the first of four substantive agreements in the peace agenda of the Government of the Philippines (GRP) and the National Democratic Front (NDF). Sulong CARHRIHL has actively pursued peace through various engagements with communities affected by armed conflict, local government, national government agencies, and international communities.
Sulong CARHRIHL is a network of 120 organizations nationwide, who have a common advocacy of pursuing peace and ending the long-drawn conflict between
the Government and the NDF. Throughout the years, the network has grown beyond its advocacy on CARHRIHL, but has pursued the larger advocacy of peace building, including providing economic alternatives for communities in armed conflict areas.
In 2019, after a series of consultations with network partners, staff, and the board members, it was agreed upon that Sulong CARHRIHL will change its name to Sulong PEACE, to capture the true essence of its vast work. In 2021, it has formally changed its legal name into Sulong Peace, Inc.
